Learn Guitar Certified

I've had an acoustic guitar for little over a year now, but have never actually tried to learn how to play it. I'm going to college in the fall and that learning and playing guitar would be a good way to pass the time. I got the first step down, which was tuning it, and now I'd like to learn the basic chords so I can learn some country songs. What are the basic guitar chords, and is there a website that can show me where to place my fingers? I've looked through some sites, but the majority of them have pictures that are small and I can't understand. I've looked a little on YouTube, but there's not really anyone who should be teaching guitar on there from what I've saw. Thanks in advance.
