    not to criticize, but wouldnt it work out better if you fretted with your ring and pinky and layed your index across the frets to mute all the strings you dont play? David always talks about how you have to mute those strings you arent playing and that seems like a good way to work on finger independance while barring that you need to play so much of the hendrix, journey, srv etc songs.
