How hard is it to learn Acoustic Guitar? ?
8th January 2009
Hey guys I'm gonna start playing guitar but I want to learn on my own. How hard is it to play songs on the Acoustic Guitar.
If you want to learn MUSIC with guitar, it will be hard by yourself.
But if you just want to learn to play songs on guitar, you can use guitar "tabs". Look up "how to read guitar tabs", it will be explained.
Then you can look up any tab for a song (most tabs online will be free) and easily play it., without needing to know about key signatures and reading the music staff.

well, your question is kind of general, but i would say, that initally learning guitar came fairly easy for me , but that may not be the case for others

when you start off its kinda tricky, but after a while you get used to it so it's not that hard. but some songs are a bit difficult. (my cousin plays electric and acoustic!)

It depends if you are devoted enough to take time and learn the Acoustic Guitar really well. Or you don't contribute to it at all. Practice and you will be awesome. But don't practice and you won't be good. For me it was fairly easy but a little tricky along the way. You will be great if you practice. I know it helped me.

It's an instrument that is fairly easy to play but can be hard to master - if that makes sense.
A few tips:
get the best guitar your budget can stretch too. A guitar with strings that are closer to the fretboard will be easier to play - that's what people mean when they say a guitar's "action."
get a digital tuner - they are cheap.
then learn to tune by ear too.
get a decent chord book that has pictures of where to put your fingers.
don't get suckered into the "practise, practise, practise" myth - this will at best bore you and at worst stop you playing altogether. Practise for as long as is comfortable - you are looking to build up the muscle "memory" in your fretting hand, you are not attempting a world record at endurance.
Practise songs that YOU like not the ones that everyone else suggests.
listen to as much music as possible, and not just guitar music - other instruments can inspire you.
use every resource available to you - YouTube, the net in general, the library, friends, the TV - you can pick up so much just by watching and listening
Have fun learning. That's the most important thing.
Good luck.

I didn't learn on the acoustic guitar but now I only play the acoustic guitar and it was a relatively easy progression for me. It's probably easier to learn on the acoustic guitar because then it will be easier to switch to electric if you decide to. Electric is way easier than acoustic just to let you know.
But I do have big hands cuz I'm 6'5 so you may want to get an opinion from a smaller person if you're small.
